What is Chiropractic

A Doctor of Chiropractor (DC), or Chiropractic Specialist, is a specialist who is trained to diagnose and treat disorders of the musculoskeletal and nervous systems. They believe in a conservative (non-surgical) hands-on approach to treating these disorders. Chiropractors do not prescribe drugs nor do they perform surgery. Chiropractic treatment focuses on whole-body health by working toward restoring and maintaining spinal health. This may include physiotherapy modalities and lifestyle counseling. Detecting vertebral subluxations and performing spinal manipulation or spinal adjustments is the main focus on restoring and maintaining whole body health.

What is a Chiropractic Adjustment

When a spinal vertebra becomes misaligned, spinal nerves can be compromised, causing secondary muscle spasm and pain. Manipulation involves applying a specific manual pressure or force to a specific area of the spinal column to release the vertebra, thereby correcting the misalignment (subluxation). Sometimes several adjustments are necessary until soft tissues connected to the vertebra remember their correct positions.
